In addition, this position assists pharmacists in performing a variety of general technical duties related to the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients. These duties require knowledge of and skills in the preparation and distribution of drugs in various dosage forms. Also responsible for unique tasks consistent with technician certification status requirement. Supports pharmaceutical care for patients and complies with laws & regulations of appropriate state and federal agencies and guidelines of JCAHO. Education: High school graduate; completion of a SC Board of Pharmacy approved technician course OR current enrollment in a professional academic pharmacy program at an accredited university. Experience: REQUIRED: 1,000 documented hours work experience as a technician under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist OR satisfactory progress maintained in the professional academic pharmacy program; PREFERRED: total of at least 1 year hospital pharmacy experience in addition to requirement. Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Current registration with SC Board of Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician OR a pharmacy intern; (certified technicians will have passed the National Technician Certification Board exam or a SC Board of Pharmacy approved exam AND must maintain current certification status - DOES NOT APPLY FOR PHARMACY INTERN). Special Training: Must have thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology; possess good mathematical skills; possess problem-solving abilities; able to work in team situations; able to handle urgent, stressful situations; Alliance and departmental mandatory training required annually.
